In their second match, the Goulbourn Stingers played the Smiths Falls Storm. Through solid offensive as well as defensive play, they won this game 28 to 18.

The Stingers’ third game on Saturday was against Naismith ranked as the top seed in the division. The Goulbourn team had never met this team before and needed a win to advance to the gold medal game on Sunday. Naismith came out strong and took an early lead. The Goulbourn Stingers refused to be intimidated and with tremendous team effort scored a win of 49 to 27. This third win gave them their chance for a gold medal.

On Sunday afternoon, the Goulbourn Stingers met their rival, the Russell Rockets. We had met the Rockets many times over the season and the Stingers were anxious to show their strength as a team. The Stingers came out strong scoring an early lead. Unfortunately, foul trouble in the first quarter proved difficult for the Goulbourn team to overcome. The Russell Rockets were able to capitalize on foul shots and take the lead. The Goulbourn Stingers fought to regain control but were unsuccessful in regaining the lead leaving the Rockets to win this gold medal match with a score of 39 to 31. The Goulbourn Stingers accepted the silver medal for their efforts over the weekend.

Angela Armstrong of the Goulbourn Stingers was selected as MVP for the gold medal game.

The Goulbourn Stingers Major Bantam A team is coached by Barry Cutler, Lisa O’Connor and Jocelyn Cutler with Brenda Cutler as team manager.

The Goulbourn Stingers Major Bantam A team is a newly formed team with many girls never having played competitive basketball. The girls were extremely proud of their efforts on the weekend and how far they have progressed over the season. The team is looking forward to the provincials in April to top off a great season!
