Hornets Boys Juvenile Competitive Team Surprises Again!
The Goulbourn Hornets Boys Juvenile Competitive Team has
just added another amazing accomplishment to their
inaugural season record.
The Hornets were invited to play in the Ottawa University
Men’s Summer Basketball League. The League is made up of
fourteen teams that were drawn from the ranks of
university, college, CEGEP and senior high school
basketball ranks. While there are a number of alumni
players on several of the teams in the league, the
majority are all current, competitive players and familiar
faces in the top ranks of basketball in Ottawa.
It was a real honour and a testament to the success of the
season that got the Team to number 4 in Division 5 in the
Province, to be invited to play at this high a level.
However, practical expectations were that this would be a
‘humbling but learning experience’ and that it would be
tough going for such a young, first year Team.
The Hornets were able to win four of their games, and
secure the final playoff spot at the end of league play.
While it was good news that the Team’s for and against
percentage helped secure the last playoff, it was also bad
news that the last spot would be matched against the
first. In the playoff game against the #1 team in the
league the Hornets threatened the upset of the summer
through the first two quarters of the game, tenaciously
holding on to a small lead. Unfortunately, with a slightly
depleted squad of only eight players fatigue took its toll
and the Hornets bowed out…
The Hornets have earned a well deserved rest – for at
least two weeks. The Team is now looking forward to the
Basketball World Camp in Connecticut at the end of July,
and next season’s Try-Out Camp here in Ottawa at the end
of August.
