The Belleville Spirit Hoops Tournament turned out to be
a bronze experience for the Goulbourn Stingers Midget A
girls’ basketball team.
Travelling to Belleville for the recent tournament, the
Stingers suffered only one loss in their five games but
it was a key game, namely the semi-final contest against
the Lindsay Wildcats. However, despite this loss, the
Stingers were able to play in the bronze medal game
which they won, bringing home bronze medals from the
tournament.
The Goulbourn Stingers won their pool in the round robin
portion of the tournament to be able to advance to the
semi-final against the Lindsay Wildcats. This turned out
to be a very competitive game for the Stingers and
although the Stingers kept battling throughout the game,
the Wildcats proved to be too much for them in this
particular game. The Stingers ended up losing 43-27 to
the Lindsay Wildcats, with Emily Oatway leading the way
for the Stingers with 12 points.
With this loss, the Stingers were relegated to the
bronze medal game against the Peterborough Power, a team
which the Stingers had met in their opening game of the
tournament.
The game was close, with the Stingers leading by only
three points going into the fourth quarter. However, the
Stingers showed great determination to capture the
bronze medals and ended up winning by nine points,
29-20.
